I’m white, so I often take for granted how easy it is to buy things like greeting cards, toys, or even decor that reflects my appearance. However, whenever I’ve needed to buy a card for a friend of color, I’ve noticed that most feature Caucasian people and that extends to pretty much most mainstream representations. When I learned of Ethnic Inspirations by Marshae, I was really excited because I knew that it filled a void. Ethnic Inspirations owner Ramona Dorsey created the line because she couldn’t find wallpaper for her daughter’s room that featured African American children.

Ethnic Inspirations by Marshae sells inspirational art prints, artistic borders, murals and coordinating bedding featuring children of various cultural backgrounds. The Expressions of Children collection features African American children. Themes include Boys at Play - little boys playing soccer, basketball, football, and baseball, Dress Rehearsal - adorable little girls wearing tutus, and It’s Tea Time - dolled up little girls, teddy bears and puppies enjoying a tea party. For teens or adults, the Adinkra Collection features African Adinkra symbols which provide inspiration from the meaning of the various symbols.
