Mobiles are making a splash again in home decor. They aren’t just for the nursery anymore and can stylishly add a burst of color into any area of your house.

The simple and elegant mobiles of frazier & wing are always a favorite of mine, ever since I saw their recycled magazine mobiles which was made into a DIY recently by Still Dottie.

By just cutting up shapes in fabric or paper, and using string or wire, you’re able to hang just about anything from your ceiling. Take some inspiration from some modern pieces like these above by designer Chris Luomanen (top) and a mod piece by Oras Designs. Paper cut outs or origami can be easy ways to add a different sophisticated touch. You can also recycle and find colors or patterns you like from old magazines, paper, or fabric.

Sally Shim one of my favorite crafters made his mobile of fabric leaves by sewing together pieces of cut linen.
